Charles Theodore Gagnon

Gagnon, Charles Rochester, NH- Charles Theodore Gagnon, 91, died peacefully Monday, August 2, 2010, at the Colonial Hill Rehab Center in Rochester, New Hampshire following a brief illness due to heart complications. He was the beloved husband of the late Elinor (Tracy) Gagnon. He leaves his sons; David and his wife Lynn of Titusville, PA, Richard and his wife Ann of Canton, CT, and Christopher and his wife Kristine of Simsbury, CT; his grandchildren: Rick, Jason and his wife Sarah, Michelle, Tracy and her husband Marc Spiegel, Ellie and her husband Steve Brooks, Kelly, Kerry and Ryan; his great grandchildren; Alex, Emma, Mackenzie, Jacob, Maya, and Mikayla ; relatives in Massachusetts and many close friends in Connecticut, Florida, New Hampshire, Michigan, Puerto Rico and Canada. Born and raised in Lynn, MA, he was the son of David and Mildred (Deveau) Gagnon. He lived for many years in Lynn, MA; Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico; Simsbury, CT; Deltona, FL and Strafford, NH. After graduating from Classical High School in 1937, he attended Bentley College in Boston, graduating in 1940 with a Certification in Accounting. Mr. Gagnon joined General Electric where he started as an accountant. He married Elinor in 1941 and, in 1944 he joined the U.S. Navy, SK 2nd Class. After serving with the Navy, Mr. Gagnon re-joined the General Electric Company in 1946. In 1956, he had the opportunity to transfer with his family to Puerto Rico where he eventually became the General Manager of GE in Caguas, PR. In 1966, Mr. Gagnon returned to live in Simsbury, Connecticut and, in 1980, he retired, with forty years of service, as Manager of Materials at the General Electric plant in Plainville. After retirement, Elinor and he enjoyed their winters living at the Shadow Lake Condos in Deltona, FL, and summers at their Bow Lake cottage in Strafford, NH. Always active, Mr. Gagnon served on numerous boards and committees including the Elfun Society in Plainville, the condo in Florida and the Dorado Hilton Golf Club in Puerto Rico. He lived independently until the spring of this year. Charlie loved golf and, until hip and knee replacements, bowling. He was an excellent painter and leaves numerous beautiful landscapes for his family to enjoy in his memory. Dad spent years refining his skills at winemaking and never missed an opportunity to entertain his family and friends with robust organ playing. During the summer at the lake, you'd find him sailing his catamaran or on the golf course. He also made the perfect martini which included plenty of extra olives for his friends at cocktail hour around the pool in Florida. Dad, Grampa/ Bomp, Great Grampa/BompBomp we will miss you dearly. Memorial activities will be held at the convenience of the family, but those who wish to make a memorial donation may do so to the charity of one's choice or the American Heart Association.
