Glen Lawrence Dore

Glen Lawrence Dore, 65, of Wells, ME passed away early on Monday, August 12, 2024, with his wife, Rebecca (Harding) Dore and eldest daughter, Christi (Dore) Gregory, by his side after a long battle with Esophageal Cancer. Glen was born in Sanford, ME to Roy and Sylvia (Knights) Dore on October 13, 1958. He was raised in Rochester, NH along with his older brother Frank. He graduated from Spaulding High School in 1976, then went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps from March 1977 to March 1981. His time in the Marines is one that he always looked back on. He always said that he got his attitude and outlook on life from his time in the Marines. Upon discharge from the Marine Corps, he started an apprenticeship program at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard where he worked for 16 years. He then retired from the Shipyard and went on to work as a Splice Service Technician for Bell Atlantic. He worked for the phone company through all the acquisitions and mergers until his diagnosis in December 2020 and his retirement in June of 2021. Glen met his wife Becky at a game night with friends in 1991. They built their dream house together and were married on September 26, 1992. They welcomed their first child, Christi, in December 1993 and their second child, Carrie, in August 1995. Glen was the best dad to his daughters. He always made sure they had anything they could ever want or need. Glen lived an adventurous life: from the time he was four years old being chased by a goose and turning around to chase it with a stick; to his time in the Marines traveling all over the world; to introducing the travel bug to his two daughters when they were young, and continuing his travels with his wife as his daughters grew up and started to travel on their own. Any time he spoke about traveling somewhere, it was usually somewhere that he had already been, but he was never thinking of himself, it was always something he wanted to experience again with the one that he loved most so that they could experience it together. Glen was never one to sit still. He loved walking around the neighborhood, biking, hiking with his youngest daughter, anything that kept him active. He biked up Mt Washington twice in his lifetime, participated in Century Bike Races, hiked Mt Chocorua multiple times with Carrie. Even as recent as July 2024, he was out walking the neighborhood with his friend, Ralph Gamache. He always insisted that the walking is what maintained his health for as long as he did. Glen was one of the most dedicated and determined people anyone could meet. He liked to thank his Marine Corps training for this, but for those who knew him, it was just in his nature. He spent his life taking care of everyone that he loved and doing his best to serve those who needed it most. He donated blood for as long as he was allowed, he was tested to be a bone marrow donor, and even before he was diagnosed with Cancer, he donated his time and energy to Dana Farber Cancer Institute. He walked in the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk three times in his lifetime. The last time being in 2023 after almost three years of treatments. Glen is predeceased by his father Roy Dore (1994) and is survived by his wife of 31 years, Rebecca (Becky) Dore (Harding), daughter Christi (and Christopher) Gregory, daughter Carrie Dore, mother Sylvia (Knights) Dore, brother Frank (and Wendy) Dore, niece Erin Dore, nephew Russel (and Amanda) Whitten and their children, niece Lisa (and Scott) Walker and their children, as well as many friends and family that he has met over his lifetime. The family wants to voice their deepest gratitude to all the doctors and nurses that helped guide and treat Glen through his cancer journey with Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Specifically, his direct care team: Dr. Andrea Enzinger, Dr. Adrienne Kolk, Dr. Rahman, Dr. Schlecter, and all the nurses who assisted in his care. They would also like to thank Beacon Hospice (Keith and Johnna) who has cared for Glen since January. Visitation hours will be Monday, August 19, 2024 from 4 - 7 p.m. at Edgerly's Funeral Home, 86 South Main Street, Rochester, NH. The family knows how much Glen hated to dress up in a suit for anything, so they ask that everyone dress comfortably in jeans and a sports shirt, jersey or sweater. The interment will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at Townhouse Cemetery 247 Middle Road, Center Tuftonboro, NH. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, the organization that has been an integral part of Glen's care for the last three and a half years.
