Thomas Irwin Mann

Thomas Irwin Mann, whose name sparks memories of generosity and faith,passed peacefully in his sleep on the morning of February 24th, 2024. He is survived byhis loving wife of 68 years, Constance Mann, his three children, Deborah Abel, StevenMann, and David Mann, and his brother Robert Mann. He also leaves behind sevenbeloved grandchildren: Kyle Abel, Christa Roy, Kelsey Abel, Heather Summers, NathanMann, Sarah Blais, and Rachel Mann, and one great grandchild: Adalyn Summers.Thomas, "Tommy Little," was born in Somerville, MA to Thomas Adam Mann andVerna Osgood Mann and moved to Alton Bay, NH as a child. He was a 1952 graduateof Spaulding High School and in 1954 earned a Steam and Diesel Engineeringcertificate from Wentworth Institute in Boston. Tom excelled in his career as a PrudentialInsurance agent for 34 years, receiving awards for his dedicated work in sales. Pop'sClam Shell in Alton Bay, NH received its name from Tom, the original "Pops" who ownedand operated the popular restaurant in the late 1970's.As a call firefighter and captain on Engine 2, he was well known in Rochester forhis compassion and perseverance. Thomas was a member of Emmanuel AdventChristian Church and served as an elder for many years. His servant leadershipcompelled him to be among the first to provide support to those suffering. He reached.out to those who were alone, visited the ill in hospitals, and shared prayers that brought.solace and peace. Despite his frugal lifestyle, Tom always carried $100 in his pocket,prepared to offer it to anyone in need. When once asked about his generosity he quietlyreplied, "It's not mine to keep. It's God's for me to give away."Thomas would joke that he was born on "Friday the 13th". However, February13th, 1935, fell on a Wednesday, representative of the humor he embraced throughoutlife beneath an occasionally abrasive exterior. His bold yet gentle presence blessed theearth for eighty-nine full years, and all who met Tom would learn of his deep faith as hetrusted God through every challenge and praised Him for each victory. Naturally, hewould depart from us on 2/24/2024. Twenty-four is depicted throughout scripture as anumber of wholeness, physically and spiritually. Though many were not ready forThomas to leave, his work was complete, and he was called home.
