Farmington - Veronica (Chaplin) Grant, 64 of 65 Labrador Road, Farmington, passed away Sunday, July 15, 2012, at home, after a very courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Born October 28, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Margaret (Leonard) Chaplin. She was raised in Gonic and graduated from Spaulding High School in Rochester, Class of 1965. During High School, she met the love of her life, Wayne Austin Grant, and they were married on July 29, 1967. Vickie worked for several years at the dental office of Dr. Raymond Laurion. After the birth of her three sons, she became a stay-at-home Mom. She later was employed at Davidson Rubber Textron in Dover. She then furthered her education and became a daycare provider to be followed by employment as a paraprofessional in the Rochester School System. During that time, she was blessed to have a 16-year journey and relationship with her "best bud," Kimberly Perreault, daughter of Wayne and Jodi Perreault, a journey and relationship she truly cherished. Vickie had such a special love for her family. She and Wayne would have celebrated their 45th Wedding Anniversary on July 29. She always referred to Wayne as her "hero" during her illness for his devotion and the special care he gave her. She was so proud of her three sons and their accomplishments and the great dads they have become. She was just the best "Grammie" to her nine grandchildren and so enjoyed every moment spent with them. Vickie is survived by her husband, Wayne Grant, of Farmington, sons, Douglas (and Michele) Grant, of Rochester, James (and Mindy) Grant, of Strafford, and Jeffrey (and Karyn) Grant, of Farmington, and grandchildren, Taryn and Brayden Grant, of Rochester, DJ, Nikki, Lydia, Jillian, and Ella Grant, of Strafford, and Austin and Avery Grant, of Farmington. She is also survived by her brothers, Rocky (and Shirley) Chaplin, of Jacksonville, Florida, and Richard (and Linda) Chaplin, of Gonic, sisters-in-law, Karen Clarke, of Rochester, and Jackie Dupont, of Fernandina Beach, Florida, and nieces, nephews, and great nephews. Vickie touched so many lives during her lifetime. She had a very special gift for writing and expressing her thoughts, as evidenced by the beautiful entries she made in her "Caring Bridge Journal" during her treatment at Dana Farber, which so uplifted all of us as she fought her ovarian cancer with every ounce of energy she had. What a beautiful legacy she leaves for her family and friends. The family is very grateful for the love and support given Vickie by so many during her illness and wishes to express its heartfelt thanks to Dr. Liu and the Staff at Dana Farber for their compassionate care of Vickie throughout her treatments and also to Annie, Sarah, and Zigrid, of Rochester VNA Hospice for their loving care of Vickie in her final weeks. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 18, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m, at Emmanuel Church, 24 Eastern Avenue, Rochester. A celebration of Vickie's life will be conducted Thursday, July 19, at 11:00 a.m., at Emmanuel Church, 24 Eastern Avenue, Rochester, with Pastor Dan Huggard, of Walnut Grove Baptist Church, Rochester, officiating. Burial will follow at Rochester Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the R.M. Edgerly and Son Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St. Rochester, NH.
