ALTON - Alan M. Johnson, 62, of 151 Fort Point Road, died Aug. 10, 2009, at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Mass.Born Jan. 5, 1947, in Perth Amboy, N.J., he was the son of the late Stanley L. and Eugena (Miller) Johnson.Chief Johnson's career began in 1962. At age 17, he joined the First Aid Squad in Edison, N.J. In 1969, Alan moved to New Hampshire and joined the Farmington Fire Department. Along with other members of the volunteer Fire Department, Alan was instrumental in getting authorization from the town to start an EMS squad and provided training to 20 members. From this original group of firefighters the Farmington Ambulance Squad was formed. In 1972, Alan moved to Rochester and joined the Rochester Fire Department as a full-time professional firefighter. Alan continued as a member of Rochester Fire Department on the call force from 1977 to 1992, when he moved to Alton.
