ROCHESTER ; Albert Edward "Ted" Parent, 88, resident of Rosewood Manor and formerly of 6 Strawberry Hill Drive, died Monday, April 6, 2009, at Frisbie Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.He was born May 16, 1920, in Farmington, the son of the late Edward and Celanier (Caron) Parent. He was a lifelong resident of the area. Mr. Parent served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries received in combat. Upon returning from the war, he worked at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a welder on atomic submarines. His favorite hobby was writing music and lyrics for the guitar, harmonica and keyboard and had over 200 songs published. Mr. Parent enjoyed growing vegetables and flowers and had a great interest in astronomy and it's wonders.The widow of Ruth (Michaud) Parent, who died in 2001, he is survived by one son, Theodore Parent and wife, Peggy, of Cape Cod, Mass.; daughter, Gloria Drobish and husband, Leroy, of Visalia, Calif.; two grandchildren, Scott Heron and Robin Drobish; two great-grandchildren, Samantha and Ashley; two sisters, Lena George of Farmington, Albena Nagle of Lynn, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.There will be no calling hours.A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 9, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester.
