Anne Farnum
Huckins
May 6, 2026
Bow Lake Free Will Baptist Church
1:00 - 2:00 pm (Eastern time)
Anne Farnum Huckins, of Strafford, NH, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026, surrounded by family and love. She was 97.
Born in Concord, NH, she was the daughter of Everett and Grace (Gile) Farnum. She grew up in Pembroke, NH, and maintained a lifelong connection to the town cherishing the close circle of extended family and dear friends she had there.
Anne attended Plymouth State College and later the Forsyth School for Dental Hygienists. She worked as a dental hygienist for Dr. Jackson Freese in Concord, NH, where she met her beloved husband, Edgar W. “Ted” Huckins, originally a patient. Their love grew into a devoted marriage that lasted many years.
Anne and Ted made their home in Strafford, where they raised their family in the Huckins family home known to those in the Bow Lake community as the 1804 House and the Huckins Tavern. She was deeply involved in her church and community, generously giving her time to the Ladies Circle, Strafford Youth Association, Sunday School, 4-H sewing classes, and the Channel 11 Auction while raising her children. In her later years, she enjoyed staying active and connected through the Garden Club, Book Club, and Quilting Group.
Anne was a talented cook and craftswoman, though she would always preface a meal with a warning that it “didn’t come out as good as it normally does.” Her community valued her expertise in the kitchen, soliciting her recipes for shared cookbooks. In 1980, she earned a spot as the Manchester Union’s “Cook of the Week.”
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures: sitting under the maple trees, spending time by the lake, enjoying hot dogs, ice cream, popcorn, and the occasional Manhattan. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family and many dear friends.
Anne was known for her wry sense of humor and the quick-witted opinions shared with those close to her – traits which will live on in her children and grandchildren.
Anne was predeceased by her husband, Ted, and her sister, Mary Elizabeth Wright.
She is survived by her daughter, Judith Huckins of Strafford; her son, Matthew Huckins and his wife Anne of Strafford; her granddaughter, Katie Eichel and her husband Josh of Boston, MA; and her grandson, Nathaniel Huckins of Strafford.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Johnson Creek Village for the care, kindness, and compassion they provided in her final years.
A service will be held at the Bow Lake Free Will Baptist Church 530 Province Rd, Strafford, NH, 03884, on Saturday, May 16th, at 1:00PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Bow Lake Free Will Baptist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
