Rochester NH- Antonio E. Anctil, 83, of 5 Darrell Street died Friday June 11, 2010 at Colonial Hill Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family after a period of failing health. Born Feb. 11, 1927 in Gonic, NH he was the son of the late John B. and Edith (Gagnon) Anctil. Tony graduated from Spaulding High School, Class of 1945 where he played football and hockey, then proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a lifelong resident of Rochester and had worked 20 years as a Rochester police officer retiring as captain then also retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He was a communicant of St. Mary Church of Rochester and member of the NH Police Association. Tony was a longtime member of the Rochester Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf. He was an avid hockey player with the Rochester men's league and a longtime member of Planet Fitness. He also enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play various sports. Members of his family include his wife of 60 years, Jacqueline (Shaw) Anctil of Rochester ; sons, David and wife Rebecca Anctil of Rochester , James and wife Pamela Anctil of Wolfeboro, NH,; daughter Cheryl and husband Kurt Douglas of Rochester; 10 grandchildren; Daniel, Kristin, Kenneth Anctil, Allison and husband TJ Bernier , Matthew, Jayson, Janna Anctil, Katie, Bryan and Shannon Douglas; one greatgrandchild, Paige Bernier; his sister, Marcelline Donlon and husband Richard of Gonic, NH; several nieces and nephews. Family and friends may visit Monday 2-4 & 6-8pm at the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main Street, Rochester, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11:00am at St. Mary Church, Lowell Street, Rochester NH with Fr. Dan Sinibaldi, as celebrant. Burial will follow in Rochester Cemetery, Franklin Street Rochester NH. In lieu of flowers memorials in his name may be made to the Alzheimers Association, Vermont and NH Chapter, 10 Ferry Street, Suite 427B, Concord, NH 03301-5004.
