Born August 31, 1941 in Rochester NH, she is the daughter of the late Ambrose and Eva (Demers) LaFleur and loving wife of the late Herman C. "Fudda" Canney. Arlene was a life-long resident of Somersworth. She was a graduate of Somersworth High School class of 1959 where she met the love of her life "Fudda" whom she married and shared 55 wonderful years. In the early years of marriage, Arlene was a self-employed babysitter so she could spend as much time as possible with her own young children. Once the children were in school, Arlene began a career as an Administrative Assistant, eventually retiring from the University of New Hampshire. She was a faithful communicant of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Somersworth NH and volunteered at the Maplewood School foster grandparent program after retiring. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. She loved to go on cruises and take trips to Branson Missouri for music festivals. She loved knitting, several family members have matching Christmas stockings knit by her and new babies were outfitted with beautiful sweaters and blankets. She and Fudda attended every sporting event, dance recital, school play, and sometimes several on one day. Her grandchildren were treated to days at Lake Wentworth, hikes on Blue Job mountain and trips to York's Wild Kingdom just to name a few. She celebrated every birthday and holiday to assure her family was together. At times she hosted up to 35 guests for Thanksgiving and pulled it off flawlessly. Christmas was always a special time at their house. Everyone was spoiled! Their gift-wrapping system was something to be desired, "bagged, tagged and inventoried."
