Wakefield, NH/Beverly Hills, FL - Arthur Abbott, 82, loving husband, father, and grandfather, formerly of Lebanon, ME, passed away Monday October 24, 2011 following a period of failing health. Born May 15, 1929 in East Rochester, NH, he was the son of the late Roy and Bessie (Jones) Abbott. Mr. Abbott served in the US Army during the Korean War. He served 27 years as a postmaster, was an active member of the National League of Postmasters, and was appointed Postmaster of the Year. A former Lebanon selectman and owner/founder of Lebanon Sand and Gravel, Arthur also sold insurance and real estate. He was a dedicated Mason and enthusiastic harness racer. Members of his family include his wife of 58 years Lois (Howard) Abbott of Wakefield, NH; his children Janet Perry of Manchester, ME; Sandra Mun and husband Kam of Litchfield, NH; Deborah Wilbur and husband Dennis of Gardner, MA; and Karen Abbott of Lebanon, ME; his grandchildren Brandon, Marissa, Sierra, Alyssa, Kyle, Evan, Adam, Mikaila, and Kaitlyn; his sister, Ruby Reid; sister-in-law, Erla Abbott Smith; niece, Tammy, and nephew, Tom. He was predeceased by his brother, Franklin Abbott. Family and friends may call Friday, October 28, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the R.M. Edgerly and Son Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St. Rochester, NH. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 AM in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Forrest Grove Cemetery in Lebanon, ME.
