EPSOM - Benjamin P. Sceggell, 75, died Friday, Jan. 15, 2010 at the Epsom Health Center in Epsom, following a period of failing health.Born May 29, 1934 in Milton, Ben was the oldest son of the late Forrest and Ruth (Leeman) Sceggell.A graduate of Nute High School, Mr. Sceggell served in the Army Reserve and later enlisted in the United States Air Force. He worked for many years as a production controller at General Electric in Lynn, Mass. Ben became a resident of the Epsom Health Center in 2008, where he made many friends. He enjoyed going on field trips, playing bingo, and participating in various other activities there. He was often jokingly referred to as the "Grumpy Old Man," but everyone there knew he had a kind and gentle heart.Members of his family include his wife Phyllis; his son David Sceggell of East Kingston; the mother of his son, Mary Sceggell of Hampstead; his sister Helen Bouchard of Clearwater, Fla.; his two brothers Forrest Sceggell and his wife Mary Jo of Rochester and George Sceggell and his wife Angela of Indiana; an aunt, Pauline Leeman of Dover; and many nieces; nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Sceggell.The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of the Epsom Health Center, who Ben considered his extended family. There will be no calling hours or funeral service. Burial will be in the spring.Contributions may be made in his name to the Activities Department of the Epsom Health Center, 901 Suncook Valley Highway, Epsom, NH 03234.Arrangements are under the direction of the R.
