Saint Mary Church
10:30 - 11:30 am (Eastern time)
Carl Hamilton, 90, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on September 27, 1935, in Abington, Pennsylvania, Carl was raised in Bucks County and graduated from Central Bucks High School in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, in 1955. His family home was in Furlong, Pennsylvania. He later settled in Rochester, NH.
Carl shared a remarkable 66-year marriage with the love of his life, Elaine Chapman Hamilton. Their lifelong partnership began on the roller-skating floor at the Humoresque in Rochester, NH where Carl, an accomplished roller skater, first met Elaine. Together they built a loving family and a lifetime of cherished memories.
Carl was predeceased by his parents, Harry Hamilton and Lillian Clark Hamilton; his mother-in-law, Helena Chapman Turner; his brothers, James, Henry, and Elwood Hamilton; and his sisters, Elaine Landers and Kay Hamilton.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Elaine; his brothers, David, Richard, and Paul Hamilton; his sisters, Joan Davis and Dee Ciocca; his daughters, Suzanne Thomas and her husband Jim, Victoria Cook, and Maureen Donnell and her husband Earl; eight grandchildren Jamie, Adam, Alex, Leah, Casey, Kyle, Peter and Brian; twelve great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Carl proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1959 and continued his service for four additional years in the Air Force Reserve.
An exceptionally talented mechanic, Carl worked at several local automobile dealerships before beginning a distinguished career at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, where he retired as a Marine Machinist Mechanic. He took great pride in his work aboard numerous submarines, but none more so than the deep-submergence vessel NR-1. His skill and craftsmanship earned him recognition for repairing the vessel's turbine so precisely that the crew could barely hear it operating. He was also selected for the highly specialized task of hand-fitting the submarine's sensitive viewing windows, a testament to his expertise and attention to detail.
Carl was a true outdoorsman who found joy in hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time in nature. An avid deer and duck hunter, he also loved fishing and treasured the companionship of his yellow Labrador retriever, Cajun. Whether tending his vegetable gardens, growing fruit, splitting firewood, or watching birds from his favorite chair, Carl found happiness in the simple pleasures of life.
Family was the center of Carl's world. He loved spending days at the lake with family and friends, camping at Wells Beach and throughout New England with his daughters and grandchildren, and attending countless sporting events. When his daughters attended Spaulding High School, he rarely missed a football or basketball game, especially when they were cheering on the sidelines. Later, he enthusiastically supported his grandchildren in their many athletic pursuits.
A lifelong sports fan, Carl remained loyal to the Pittsburgh Steelers because of his Pennsylvania roots, while also embracing the New England Patriots and other New England teams, including the Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins, and Boston Celtics. He was also a devoted fan of the UConn Women's Basketball program.
Carl loved gathering family and friends together. Summer cookouts by the pool, holiday celebrations, birthdays, weddings, and family dinners brought him immense joy. He especially enjoyed cooking, with a particular fondness for seafood.
Above all else, Carl was a genuinely kind, hardworking, and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, Uncle and friend. His love for his family knew no bounds, and the example he set through his generosity, loyalty, and unwavering support will remain with all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Voucher’s for Veterans or St Jude Children’s Hospital in Carl's memory.
