Tilton, NH- Carol A. Garlough, 82, a resident of the NH Veterans Home died Friday March 24, 2017 at the NH Veterans Home in Tilton, NH. She was born Sept. 13, 1934 in NY City, NY the daughter of the late Otto and Alice (White) Rumpf. She was a graduate of Watertown High School, Class of 1952 then served in the U.S. Air Force. Carol was a military wife for over 20 years, living in many different states. She was a stay at home Mom until moving to Rochester where she worked at the Wonder Bread Thrift Store. She lived in Rochester from 1970 until 1978 when she moved to Wolfeboro and then to Tuftonboro. While living in the lakes region she worked for Hampshire Pewter and The Town of Wolfeboro before retiring in 1999. After retiring she moved to Largo, FL to help her elderly mother before returning to NH and settling in Somersworth. She lived in Somersworth until she moved to the NH Veterans Home in 2011 due to health reasons. Carol was an avid outdoorswoman who enjoyed fishing, walking, speed skating and going to the beach. She was a great seamstress, crafter, knitter and one who enjoyed stained glass. She rarely missed a sporting event for her boys and grandchildren and was often heard cheering the loudest. Members of her family include sons, Jerome Garlough and wife Carol Ann, Rochester and their children Jeffrey and James, Glenn Garlough and wife Melissa, Tuftonboro, NH and their children Paige and Jonathan, Keith Garlough, Santa Rosa, CA. and his daughter Grace, Graydon Garlough, Coloma, CA.; daughter, Laura Grondin and husband Kerry, Somersworth, NH and their children Daniel and Christine; 9 great grandchildren; brothers, Edward Rumpf, Long Island, NY, Paul Rumpf, Clearwater, FL.; sister, Dorothy Seinz, Largo, FL. and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial service will be held in June (to be announced) at the R.M Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main Street, Rochester, NH. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cocheco Valley Humane Society, County Farm Road, Dover, NH 03820.
