Somersworth- Charles "Eddie" Hamel, 87, of 166 Colonial Village died Thursday, December 16, 2010 at his home with Etta, Lisa his caregiver, granddaughter Rachel, and his cat Midnight. Born September 14, 1923 in Madbury, NH. He is the son of the late Levi and Rosa (Binette) Hamel. Eddie served honorably as a submariner for the US Navy during WWII. He was proud to serve on the USS Porpoise, USS Bonita and the USS Griffin. He was self employed for many years as the owner of Hamel's Auto Service in Dover and Gulf Service Station in Durham before driving trucks and delivering fuel for Mobil. Mr. Hamel just received his 45 year pin from the American Legion Post 8. Eddie and Etta enjoyed traveling especially their trips in the motor home as members of the Good Sam's Club. They drove through all 48 states and visited all 50. He enjoyed throwing horseshoes and was an avid NASCAR fan. Eddie and Etta cruised the Panama Canal, lived in Zephyrhills, FL in the winter and camped in Strafford, NH. Members of his family include his wife of 47 years Etta E. (Emerson) Hamel of Somersworth. Their children; Richard E. Hamel and wife Elaine of Sanford, ME, Matthew R. Hamel and companion Lisa Hamel both of Rochester, Earl Tanguay and wife Jo of Vermont, Carol "Cookie" Pratt and husband Everett of Farmington, Lynn Rogers of Dover, and Linda Hartford and husband Scott of Dover. His brothers Joseph Hamel and wife Doreen of Florida and Albert Hamel both of Florida. Thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Several brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Eddie will be missed by his "Honey Bunny" Hailey Mae. He was preceded in death by his brother Levi P. Hamel, his sister Rita Seppa, his sister Blanche Poitras, one grandson, and one great grandson. Calling hours will be held Monday, December 20, 2010 from 5 PM to 7 PM at the R. M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 S. Main Street, Rochester, NH 03867 A funeral service will be celebrated Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 1 PM in the chapel of the R. M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 S.
