ROCHESTER - Charles E. Rhodes, 90, died Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, at the Frisbie Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.Born Feb. 1, 1919, in Presque Isle, Maine, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Emma (Oram) Rhodes.Mr. Rhodes had lived in Rochester for the past 20 years after moving from Ayer, Mass. He had been employed as a toolmaker for Wang Inc. until his retirement in 1986. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the Emmanuel Advent Christian Church in Rochester.Members of his family include his son, Richard C. Rhodes and his wife, Katherine, of Rochester; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Rhodes of Pensacola, Fla. His grandchildren include Brian S. Rhodes and his wife, Melissa, of Lakeland, Fla., Heather L. Brickner and her husband, Adam, of Center Barnstead, Eric T. Rhodes of Santa Rosa, Calif., Anna F. Filler and her husband, Jason, of Brookings, S.D., and Sara R. Rhodes of Chicago, Ill. His great-grandchildren are Bridgette Rhodes, Alex, Isaac and Sarah Brickner and Jason, Jorj, and Jayella Filler. He was predeceased in 2001 by his wife, Evelyn S. Rhodes and by a son, David J. Rhodes in 2005.Visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 18, from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The funeral will follow at 10:30 a.m. Both services will be in the chapel of the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester. A private family burial will be held in the Green Cemetery in Carlisle, Mass., following the service.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations in his memory be made to the Rochester District Visiting Nurse Association, 178 Farmington Road, Rochester, NH 03867 or the Gaffney Home, 90 Wakefield Street, Rochester, NH 03867.Visit the online guest book at www.fosters.com/obits
