Clara Mazur

d. January 1, 2001

BARRINGTON - Clara Ethena Mazur, formerly of Barrington, N.H., passed away on Jan. 3, 2010, in Dover at Riverside Rest Home at the age of 86 following a period of declining health. Her family was at her side. She was born on Aug. 8, 1923, in Berwick, Maine, the youngest child of Arthur S. Hull and Lillian (Parshley) Hull. The family moved to Meaderboro Road when Clara was a young child where the "big city lights" of Rochester made her nervous and giddy. She graduated from Rochester High School in the class of 1942 and went to work at the former Morley Button Factory in Portsmouth, where she met her future husband, Adam Mazur, to whom she was married for 35 years. They lived in Farmington and operated a small dairy farm before moving to Barrington in 1961, where they were able to expand the operation of their farm until her husband's death on Sept. 28, 1980.To all who knew her, she was compassionate, empathetic, generous to a fault an extremely hard worker and totally dependable. She made many friends during her working years as a shoe shop fancy stitcher, first at Hubbard Shoe Company in Rochester, and then at Colby Footwear in Gonic from which she retired. Not wishing to sit still, she volunteered to be a tour guide at Frisbie Memorial Hospital, where she conducted tours for 12 years, with groups of small children, being her specialty. She continued her volunteer work until she was no longer able to walk the hospital halls. She was also a long standing member of the Crown Point Grange in Strafford, as well as a Pomona and State granges.Clara loved small children, family, flowers, vegetable gardening, small and large animals, music, country fairs and theater. She had a wide range of interests which were sadly taken away by advancing age and infirmities. She was, however, a lively character at Riverside and well liked by those who attended her.She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Ernest Belleville of Barrington; her granddaughter, Debra Goodwin, and great-grandson, Tristan A. Goodwin, both of Rochester; and many nieces, nephews, both first and great and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers, Laurel Robert, Arthur Harold Hull and sisters, Doris May Hull (1909) and Pauline Agnes Cormier.Friends may visit Wednesday, Jan. 6, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Hull Family plot in Kimball Cemetery in the spring.Visit the online guest book at www.fosters.com/obits.
