Dover NH - David G. Torr, 80, formerly of 62 County Farm Cross Road died Thursday August 27th with his sons by his side at the Dover Center for Health & Rehabilitation. Born February 19, 1935 in Rochester he was the son of the late Franklin and Bernice (Goodale) Torr David grew up in the Chestnut Hill area of Rochester on the family farm. He graduated from Spaulding High School in 1953, then enlisted and proudly serviced in the US Air Force for four years both in this country and Labrador, Canada. After military duty, he married his sweetheart, Janice Jacobs of Rochester. He graduated from UNH in 1961. David started his banking career in 1962. He became Operations Officer in 1967 and received additional duties as Cashier in 1969. In 1978 he was promoted to Vice President and Cashier. In December 1981, he was named Senior Vice President and Cashier. The next major advancement happened in 1986 when he became President and COO, and 1989 became President and CEO. In 1991 when Strafford National Bank merged with Bank of New Hampshire he became the Regional President. Dave maintained and enjoyed this role until he retired in 1996 after 34 years of dedicated service. In retirement Dave and his wife enjoyed traveling in their RV to Florida and the Lakes Region of Maine. He was an avid salmon fisherman who especially liked Moosehead Lake during the summer and fall seasons. Affectionately known as Papa, he was a devoted grandfather to his 4 grandchildren. Papa spent many summers enjoying the company and exploits of his grandchildren, which included tractor rides and fishing trips. During retirement Dave went back his farming roots, establishing and building up a modest Christmas Tree Plantation on his Rochester property. Dave was an avid Patriots fan! In addition to his parents, Dave was predeceased by his wife Janice in 2002. He is survived by sons; Michael Torr and his wife Karen, and David J. Torr both of Rochester, his brothers Frank Torr and his wife Ann of Dover, Ralph Torr and his wife Pauline of Rochester and Nathan Torr and his wife Lydia of Meredith, his grandchildren; Ashley, Zachary, David and Joshua Torr, his great grandchildren; Abigail and Madison Torr. Dave's family would like to extend their gratitude to the nursing staff at Dover Center for Health and Rehabilitation for the wonderful care he received. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wentworth Home Care and Hospice or to the Cocheco Valley Humane Society Calling hours will be held Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 at the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 south Main St, Rochester NH Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11am in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial will be in the Pine Hill Cemetery in Dover following the funeral
