Rochester, NH - Dorothy Eileen O'Brien, 87, passed away on January 21, 2018 at the Studley Home after a long battle with C.O.P.D. Born in Lynn, Massachusetts on January 13, 1931, she was the only child of Norman and Ellen (Edgar) Pike. She was educated in Saugus and Lynn, Massachusetts schools, graduating from Lynn Classical in 1948. She attended Burdett College in Lynn. She worked at the Lynn Institution for Savings and the General Electric Company at the Lynn River Works Division. She married Joseph O'Brien on July 9th, 1950 at St. Stephens Church in Lynn and had 60 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in December 2010. Preferring country living to city life, they moved to Twin Mountain in 1954, enjoying all the outdoor activities. While living in Twin Mountain (Carroll), NH she was active in town politics, serving on the Carroll and White Mountain regional school boards for 11 years. She then was appointed and later elected the first woman Selectman for the town and also in Coos County. She also served on the town's Planning Board and Budget Commission for many years. In 1954 together with her husband, she started O'Brien Radio and Television repair business in Whitefield, NH, which they operated for 25 years. During this period of time she and her husband built and operated the Twin Mountain Airport until 1998 when they retired and moved to Wakefield, NH. She also worked in various hospitality positions in Twin Mountain. She loved being a home maker, cooking, reading, crossword puzzles, music, and most of all being with and caring for her beloved pets. She was a great animal lover. She is survived by several nieces and nephews on her husband's side. There will be no services. Arrangements are under the care of R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, if you so desire, donations can be made to any No Kill Animal Shelter of your choice. Or - better yet, adopt a homeless pet.
