ROCHESTER - Edward Joseph Ronayne, 78, of 197 North Main St., died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at Ed White Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla., after a period of failing health. He was born Sept. 18, 1931, in Medford, Mass., the son of the late John J. and Mary (Coughlin) Ronayne. He was in the first graduating class of Matignon High School in Cambridge, Mass., and went on to serve in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. Mr. Ronayne had resided in Rochester for the past five years, previously living in Arlington, Mass., most of his life, where he was a self-employed master carpenter. He enjoyed going to yard sales, bargaining hunting and going to Florida in his RV. But most of all he loved his family and spending time with them. He always had a concern for others and would be there to help at will.Members of his family include his daughters, Jane E. Ronayne of Limerick, Maine, Julie and husband, Al Cook of Rochester; son, Edward Ronayne of Waltham, Mass.; the mother of his children, Barbara (Keating) Baggs of Shapleigh, Maine; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, John, of Marston, Mass., Arthur of Arlington, Mass., William of Somerville, Mass.; sisters, Maryann Picazio, Sagamore Beach, Cape Cod, Mass., Janet Rycroft Lexington, Mass., and several close nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sons, Robert Ronayne in 1997, John Ronayne in 1999 and his dog, "Big Paw."Visitation will be Monday, Nov. 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, North Main Street, Rochester with Fr. Paul Grousse, as celebrant.
