Elsie May King

Rochester- Elsie May King, 103, of the Gafney Home passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at the Frisbie Memorial Hospital. Born January 8, 1909 in Rochester, NH, she was the daughter of the late Walter E. and Matilda A. (Weeks) King. Elsie attended Keene Normal School in 1930 and received her BA in Teaching from Keene Teacher College. She started her teaching career in Brentwood, NH. She then worked for ten years as a librarian at the Rochester Library. In 1943, she returned to teaching in Barrington and then in Rochester. She retired after 27 years of service as a teacher in Rochester Elsie enjoyed her retirement; she and her sister built a home together and enjoyed watching the development grow. They traveled to many states, Canada, and Mexico. Her hobbies included reading, crocheting, embroidery, and crossword puzzles. She was a member of the True Memorial Baptist Church, National Education Association, AARP, and NH Retired Teacher Association. Members of her family include her nephews Walter King of Rochester and Robert King of Maine She was preceded in death by her sisters Ruth King and Arlene White and her brother Reginald King. Friends and family may visit Tuesday, March 13, 2012 from 10 AM to 11 AM at the True Memorial Baptist Church, 21 Ten Rod Road. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11 AM. Burial will be in the Rochester Cemetery in the spring. Arrangements are under the care of the R. M Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 S. Main Street, Rochester, NH 03867
