Elsie May King

Rochester- Elsie May King, 103, of the Gafney Home passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at the Frisbie Memorial Hospital. Born January 8, 1909 in Rochester, NH, she was the daughter of the late Walter E. and Matilda A. (Weeks) King. Elsie attended Keene Normal School in 1930 and received her BA in Teaching from Keene Teacher College. She started her teaching career in Brentwood, NH. She then worked for ten years as a librarian at the Rochester Library. In 1943, she returned to teaching in Barrington and then in Rochester. She retired after 27 years of service as a teacher in Rochester Elsie enjoyed her retirement; she and her sister built a home together and enjoyed watching the development grow. They traveled to many states, Canada, and Mexico. Her hobbies included reading, crocheting, embroidery, and crossword puzzles. She was a member of the True Memorial Baptist Church, National Education Association, AARP, and NH Retired Teacher Association. Members of her family include her nephews Walter...
