Hebert, Eugene Somersworth - Eugene A. Hebert, 80, passed away Tuesday March 9, 2010 at the York Hospital in York, ME, following a period of failing health. Born September 29, 1929 in Dover, NH he was the son of the late Adelard and Aurore (Couture) Hebert. He graduated from Somersworth High School in 1947 and starred in football. Mr. Hebert worked for General Electric in Somersworth for 43 years in a variety of positions including Information Data Processing, Purchasing, and Plant Appropriations, among others. Mr. Hebert also served in the National Guard for 20 years in the 3rd Service Battery of the 197th Field Artillery Battalion. At one point during his service Eugene was the Battery Commander, and he retired as a Captain after 20 years of service. He was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church in Somersworth, and a member of the Knights of Columbus 2078. He most enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and especially teaching them softball and baseball, attending and scoring their games while relishing every moment. He was an avid reader, and enjoyed sports, including watching the Red Sox and Patriots, woodworking, American History, and doing crossword puzzles. Members of his family include his wife of 59 years Ruth (Shea) Hebert of Somersworth, NH; his children Brian Hebert of New York City, NY; Dana Hebert and his wife Natalie of Somersworth, NH; and Beth Gallagher and her companion Kevin Elwell of Somersworth, NH; two grandchildren Shea Gallagher and Jordan Hebert, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandson Todd Hebert and his sister Madeline Gaudette. A funeral service will be held Monday March 15, 2010 at 11AM in the chapel of the R.M. Edgerly and Son Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St., Rochester, NH. Burial will follow in the Holy Trinity Cemetery in Somersworth.
