Evelyn Huppe Rochester - Nettie Evelyn Huppe, 103 years old, passed away peacefully February 10, 2023. Evelyn was born in Rochester on May 10, 1919, the daughter of the late Jeremiah and Minnie (Allen) Stuart. She spent all of her life in Rochester and lived in the same house since she was 8 years old. She worked at Dix-Wood Heel in East Rochester where she met her husband of 76 years. She was a home maker, and a very good one at that. She enjoyed her large vegetable garden which also included strawberries and blueberries. She would freeze and can the crop to have throughout the winter. She always had a beautiful flower garden. She was a member of the Portland Street and Salmon Falls Road group Port-Sal. This group of ladies would meet often to work on crafts, sewing and exchanging of their favorite recipes. During WWII she helped the Red Cross making wound care packages. She was an avid reader, with a special interest in history and made weekly trips to the Rochester library. She was creative in arts and crafts and made many Christmas ornaments for her grandchildren. She was a loving and caring wife, mom, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her. Evelyn was predeceased by her devoted husband Leo in October of 2021 after 76 years of marriage. She was also predeceased by her four brothers, George Stuart, Archie Stuart, Reggie Stuart, Jerry Stuart, and her sister, Elsie Huggard. She is survived by her daughter Cynthia and husband Alfred Benton of Rochester, her grandchildren Bonnie Noyes of Rochester, James Benton (Jane) of Rochester, Jennifer Cote (Steve) of Milton Mills, and Jonathan Benton (Sheila) of Rochester. Eight great grandchildren, Aaron Benton, Joshua Noyes, Sean Benton, Jacob Benton, Janna Berry, Sarah Whitmore, Jessica Cote, and Liam Benton. Five great-great grandchildren Abraham Benton, Ella Benton, Mackenzie Benton, Leo Berry, and Brooke Benton. A private family burial at Rochester Cemetery on Franklin Street will be held in the spring.
