Rochester, NH - Floyd Vernon Barker, age 97, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2013 at the Rochester Manor. Floyd was born in Burlington, Maine on April 22, 1915. He married Muriel Hoyt of Newington on December 17, 1943, and was her faithful and loving husband until her death in February 2006. Floyd is survived by his son, Peter Barker of Rochester and his daughter, Pam (Larry Smith) of Parksville, British Columbia, Canada, his grandsons Cory Smith (Chelsea Balsdon) of Calgary, Alberta, and Nathan Smith (Suzanne Guenette) and great-grandsons Andrew and Braydon Smith of Edzo, Northwest Territories. Floyd was raised in Enfield, Maine, and graduated from high school in Howland, Maine in 1932. He moved to Long Island, New York in 1935 and trained with and worked for Bartlett's Tree Service for 4 years. He then attended a 2-year agricultural college on Long Island and upon completion of the program, he worked as a farm manager in upstate New York until he went into the Army in 1943.
