Frances Harriet (Hattie) Canney was born in Falmouth, Massachusetts on 24 September 1942 to Harold Joseph Allbee and Frances Harriet Coffin. Hattie grew up in Falmouth and attended school until her parents moved to Windsor, VT and where she graduated from Windsor High School in the Class of 1961. Hattie married Barry Gough and they had two sons, Jon and Steve. After a few years the marriage ended and she then met the love of her life, John Canney. They were married in 1967 and in 1969 welcomed their son, Jim. Hattie worked at Davison Rubber Company for 25 years before its closure. She met some wonderful friends. She retired and lived the life of leisure for her remaining years enjoying her grandson, Samuel. Hattie's passion was rescuing and caring for animals was well known by her community for the love of animals. Over the years she worked closely with the Humane Society and took in many dogs and cats to nurture and provide a loving home. She loved them and they loved her! Her only misfortune was - having to use the bathroom and prying eyes staring at her, it was like having children come in and ask: "what are you doing?" At night it was the fight of who was going to get the pillow or who was going to sleep next to their "mother." She rescued her beloved horse after years of not seeing her and the love of human and animal was perfection. Hattie is survived by her husband, John, having culminated 51 years together, and two sons: Jon Gough and James Canney (his loving wife Kristin) grandsons: Jonathan and Samuel and sisters, Helen "Maria" Squire (St. Matthew, SC) and Diane Simmons (Pensacola, FL) along with nieces and nephews, and her beloved friends, Sheila & John Canney. Hattie is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Harold J. and Harriet C. Allbee, son, Steve Gough, and granddaughter Jennifer Gough.
