Franklyn Elbert Vosburg was born in Worcester, MA on 17 October 1954. He died early Sunday morning, at home, on 5 January 2025. Death came suddenly, rapidly, without warning, as he prepared for bed. He was the oldest son of Karl V and Barbara Williams Vosburg.
Franklyn graduated in 1974 from Blackstone Valley Vocational Technical High School. While enrolled in their machine shop program, he was recruited to act in school productions of “Don't Drink the Water,” and “One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest”which led to roles, several years later, in several productions at Portsmouth's Seacoast Repertory Theatre. He studied at Quinsigamond Community College, Worcester, MA. After a year at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN he returned to Worcester and graduated from Assumption College, Worcester, MA with a Liberal Arts Degree in 1987. He also studied for a Masters of Divinity degree at the Lutheran Theological Seminary, Philadelphia, PA and took courses through Bangor Theological Seminary at their campus in Portland, ME.
Following in his father's footsteps he attempted a career in a machine shop but soon found he was happier working with people than working in a factory. He spent many years as a Companion/Homecare Provider in Worcester and the Portsmouth area as a Personal Care Specialist at MAS Home Care. One Sunday morning, our interim pastor, Rev. Grace Burson, announced that Portsmouth Regional Hospital was looking for people to serve as Volunteer Chaplains. It was a life changing opportunity. The hours he spent with patients at the hospital were very important to him. He served as a chaplain until breathing issues made it impossible for him to walk the hospital floors.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Alice Stone (Crockett) Vosburg, of Strafford and step-children Gerald and Patricia; his sister: Katherine Vosburg Germaine of Worcester, MA, his brothers: David K Vosburg, of Brookfield, MA and Raymond Turpin (Doris) of North Brookfield, MA. He is also survived by nieces and nephews: Michael Germaine, (fiancee Osiris Cespedes) David Vosburg Jr. (fiancee Savannah Laviolette); Amy Vosburg Rose; Howard Vosburg Jr (Melinda), Wendy Elder (Dwight) of Cumming, GA; Brian Vosburg (Judith) of Douglas plus numerous delightful grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, and by brothers Philip,William, and Howard, who died on 4 Jan 2025.
