Rochester- Frederick M. Steadman, 79, former Mayor of Rochester, of 6 Wentworth Ave died Monday, February 7, 2011 at the Frisbie Memorial Hospital. Born May 24, 1931 in Haverhill, MA. He was the son of the late James and Delia (Hayes) Steadman. He lived most of his life in East Rochester. He graduated from Spaulding High School class of 1949 Served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Graduated from Bentley College as a Public Accountant Fred started his career as a Public Accountant in partnership with Ted Bergeron. He had his own business as a Public Accountant for many years. Fred served the City of Rochester for many years and in many capacities. He was employed by the City of Rochester as City Accountant for 20 years, served as a School Board Member, Board member of the JBC for Spaulding High School, City Councilman; he served the City Rochester as mayor on the passing of Roland Roberge. He also elected to the House of Representatives. Fred was also involved with many youth sports teams. He coached 10-12 year old basketball teams and Tee Pee Sports Babe Ruth baseball team. He was a co-founder of the Rochester Babe Ruth Field. He was a member of the Rochester Athletic Association. Fred was also involved in the formation of the Blue Hill Ski Club as well as a Boy Scout Leader for Pack 175 in East Rochester. He was a member of the American Legion Post 7. He was the Secretary of the Rochester Humane Lodge of Masons for 55 years and was most recently awarded his 50th year pin at the 200th Anniversary of the Humane Lodge. He was awarded the Honorary Master Mason Degree for his many years of service. Fred loved spending time with his family fishing, camping, skiing, dirt bike riding, snow mobiling and traveling. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and Kansas City Royals baseball fan. Survived by his wife Patricia (Menard) Steadman for 35 years. Two daughters, Marcia Taylor and husband Ron Leighton, Lynn Nesbitt and husband Tom, two sons, Peter Baussmann and wife Michelle, Michael Baussmann and wife Debbie. Grandchildren, Joshua Nesbitt and wife Stephanie, Senior Airman Sean Taylor, Molly Nesbitt, Krista, Cade, Cort, Noah and Nakita Baussmann, Katie , Casey and Jaime Leighton. Great- grandchildren Hailey and Owen Nesbitt.He leaves many nieces and nephews. His positive attitude and sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Family flowers only.
