Gene H. Remick ROCHESTER - Gene Remick, age 94, formerly of 170 Milton Road, died on March 22, 2021 at The Birches at Concord after a period of recent health decline and cognitive impairment. He was born on December 15, 1926, in Newburyport, Massachusetts, the son of the late Theodore and Vena (Belleville) Remick. A long-time resident of Rochester, Gene played semi-pro baseball in Rochester for Allain's clubs in the late 1940s and early 1950s and in 1951 he played pro ball with the Newton-Conover Twins in the Western Carolina League. A WWII U.S. Navy Veteran, he was a member of Rochester American Legion Post #7. He was also a long-time member of the Rochester Elks. He worked second shift at General Electric as a screw machine operator until his retirement in 1987. He was married for 66 years to the late Doris "Dot" (Comeau) Remick, until her death in 2013. Gene was an avid outdoorsman and hunter who was famous for his den full of taxidermy showing his many accomplishments. He took many hunting and fishing trips in Maine, New Hampshire, Alaska and Canada. For many years he kept and trained beagles as hunting companions and pets at his home in Rochester. He spent much of his free time with his wife and other family members at his hunting camp in Northern Maine. During retirement he and Dot spent a portion of winters in Florida. He is survived by his two daughters, Sharon J. Gordon and husband Richard of Pembroke, and Gail Hoage of New Durham; five grandchildren, Matthew R. Dubois of North Yarmouth-Maine, Sara E. Gordon of Concord, Joshua J. Gordon of West Forks-Maine, Nicholas W. Davenhall of New Durham, and Jarrod Hoage of New Durham; two great grandchildren, Nicholas Davenhall Jr. and Lillian Davenhall. He was pre-deceased by his wife Doris, and also his sister Evelyn Cardwell of Rye. Deep gratitude goes out to his caregivers at The Birches at Concord, and at Bayada Hospice. Because of the ongoing risk from the Covid-19 crisis, there will not be a memorial service. The family will hold a private burial.
