ROCHESTER ; George E. Monusky, 59, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 12, 2009, at the Colonial Hill Care and Rehabilitation Center with his wife, Mary-Jo, at his side. George bravely fought a rare neurological disease for many years with strength, courage and dignity. Born June 8, 1949, in Rockville Center, N.Y., he was the son of George J. and Dorothy (Scro) Monusky. Graduating from Hofstra University, George had a successful career as bond trader for Morgan Stanley in New York City. In 1996, he moved with his wife, Mary-Jo, to Rochester where they owned and operated the Highland St. Convenience Store in East Rochester for 12 years. Extremely well-liked by his customers and employees, George was known for his "New York" accent and infectious laugh. George relished his life and lived it with enthusiasm, he was well read, well traveled and had an unquenchable appetite for "the good life", good wine, fine foods, quality time with his beautiful wife and extended friends and family. George was also an avid golfer and was fortunate enough to have played many prestigious courses across the country over the years with his friends and two brothers, Robert and Gerry. George was a former member of both the Rochester Country Club in Rochester and Hempstead Country Club in Long Island, N.Y. George had many successes in life but none as marked as the loving relationships he shared with his wife and immediate family. He was and remains an inspiration to all. Members of his family include his wife of 21 years, Mary-Jo (Rigazio) Monusky of Rochester; his father, George J. Monusky, of Tequesta, Fla.; two brothers, Robert Monusky and his wife, Laurie, of Atlanta, Ga.; and Gerard Monusky and his wife, Nancy, of Denville, N.J.; two sisters, Patricia Gonta and her husband, John, of Farmingdale, N.Y.; and Mary Monusky of Delray, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by his mother, Dorothy H. Monusky, in 2007.Family and friends may call Wednesday April 15 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the R.M. Edgerly and Son Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St., Rochester.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Church located on Lowell Street in Rochester.
