New Durham - George H. Perkins, Sr. 99, passed away Friday October 23, 2015 at the Mountain View Nursing Home in Ossipee, following a period of failing health. Born July 2, 1916 in Milton Mills, NH, he was the son of the late Lester and Lizzie (Lord) Perkins. Mr. Perkins was a truck driver for JJ Nissen Bakeries for many years. In 2014 George was the recipient of the Boston Post Cane as the oldest resident of New Durham. He loved his career as a truck driver. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and traveling with his wife, listening to country music, and gardening. Members of his family include his special companion of over 20 years Beverly Vachon of Farmington, NH; his children George H. Perkins, Jr. and wife Sheila of Strafford, NH; and Elizabeth Christofore and husband Rick of New Durham, NH; nine grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and eight great great grandchildren, one brother Louie Perkins of Alton, NH, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Thirza (Elliott) Perkins in 1993, and his brother Clarence Perkins in 1980. Family and friends may visit Tuesday October 27, from 6-8PM at the R.M. Edgerly and Son Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St. Rochester, NH. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11AM at the Nute Ridge Bible Chapel in Milton. Burial will take place Thursday at 11AM in the Pine Hill Cemetery in Wolfeboro. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nute Ridge Bible Chapel, 99 Nutes Rd. Milton, NH 03851.
