Rochester - George Loring Sprague, Sr. 86, passed away December 24, 2011 at the Riverside Rest Home following a period of failing health. Born April 2, 1925 in Kittery, ME. he was the son of the late Stanley and Evelyn (Frary) Sprague, Sr. Mr. Sprague served in the US Navy during WWII. He later worked as a truck driver for Diamond International before working for many years and retiring from General Electric. He also volunteered with the Rochester Fire Department.. After retiring from GE, he worked for many years at the New Hampshire Farm Museum in Milton. George enjoyed woodworking, cooking, hunting and fishing. Members of his family include his wife Barbara Sprague of Rochester, NH; his children Michael Sprague and wife Gail of Milton, NH; George Sprague, JR. of Dover, NH; and Richard Sprague Sr. of Dover, NH; several grandchildren. two brothers Byron Sprague of Rochester and Kenneth Sprague of Berwick, ME; three sisters Barbara Talon and husband Andrew of Milton, NH; Clara Dedobbelaere of AZ; and Joanne Varney and husband Lloyd of TX; his brother and sister-in-law Jon and Janet Hotchkiss of Middleton, NH; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife Bertha (LaChance) Sprague, his second wife Ruth (Nichols) Sprague, his brother Stanley Sprague Jr. and sister Jeane Glidden. Family and friends may visit Wednesday, December 28, from 5-8 PM at the R.M. Edgerly and Son Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St. Rochester, NH. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 10AM in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial will take place in the Rochester Cemetery in the spring.
