George Michael Welch

June 6, 1959 — December 29, 2017

George Michael Welch, 58, of Barrington, New Hampshire passed away on December 29, 2017 and is now in the arms of his Lord. He is the son of Grace (Lemist) and the late Thomas Welch Sr. He leaves his sister Mary Jean Mirdik of Charlestown, Massachusetts and is predeceased by his brother Thomas Welch, Jr. George was so proud of his Irish heritage and was affectionately known as "Fudgy" by his lifelong and devoted friends from Charlestown, Massachusetts. His passion for hunting, fishing, skiing, snow shoeing and kayaking lured him to this country setting he called home. George never quite got the "Rack" he hoped for when hunting for deer so when you see one cross your path on a dim lit road or feeding in a field, think of George! George was a Master Electrician and recently retired after 19 years with Pease Development Authority.  He loved his job and took great pride in his work.  He worked overtime during every New England snow storm, plowing the runways, replacing lights and repairing jammed electronic gates.  And to boast of his hard work again, he somehow managed to find the time and energy to finish shoveling his own driveway and pathways around the yard for his pets. George was an expert with tools, there was nothing he couldn't build or repair.  He wanted to be buried with a utility knife just in case Saint Peter needed a few repairs on the Pearly Gates.  Look inside your righthand pocket! George leaves his beloved wife Bethann Markiewicz Welch after 34 years of marriage.  Their love for disco music brought them together on the dance floor as a young couple. They kayaked the rivers of New Hampshire experiencing God's creation through wildlife in their natural habitat.  But the greatest gifts they shared were their Catholic faith and raising three wonderful children.  He cherished memories of Red Sox games with Mason and Michelle, scouting with his son, watching Michelle at her many gymnastic events and motorcycle rides with Kelly to Rock 'n Roll concerts.  His three children were his rock and support throughout these many (14) years battling cancer.  He was proud of their selflessness. George was devoted to his two darling grandsons, Anthony George and Jay Ryan Woods who brought him immeasurable joy.  Anthony and "Papa" loved to yard sale together.  The result of which was an abundance of toys! And lastly, Posh, George's therapy dog who never left his side and could always be found curled up under a warm blanket with him. George was treated expertly by his team of Physicians and Nurses.  The family is especially grateful to Dr. Archana Bhargava of Frisbie Center for Cancer Care and Dr. John Libertino of the Lahey Clinic. Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 189 North Main Street, Rochester, New Hampshire. The church will be open for one hour prior to the mass to pay your respects to George and his family. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Cancer impacts the whole family. God bless the children afflicted. Help find a cure.
