Gilbert "Gil" Mccarthy Jr

Barrington - Gilbert Lincoln "Gil" McCarthy Jr, 75 died Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at his home in Barrington, NH, with his wife Margaret (Peg) Claire McCarthy (Atwood) by his side. Gil was born on May 18th, 1948 in Rochester, NH, the son of the late Gilbert and Muriel (Lowry) McCarthy. He grew up in Rochester, NH and often shared fond memories of his family, friends, and working at a local farm.  He volunteered to serve his country in the Navy and trained at Coronado Island (among other places) before his deployment to multiple combat tours in Navy Special Police, responsible for in-country compound security. He (and our family) made lifelong friends from his service in the Navy. Gil was combat wounded 3 days before a rotation back to the states with a long and challenging road to recovery.  He advocated for other Disabled Veterans but never considered himself disabled, holding himself to the highest of standards in all aspects of life.  In addition to his Purple Heart, he received many recognitions...
