Rochester - Gladys Spurling, 101, passed away Thursday April 11, 2013 at Colonial Hill of Rochester following a period of failing health. Born July 9, 1911 in Woburn, MA, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Jennie (Wentworth) Worster. Gladys grew up in Maine and NH, she attended Brewster Free Academy in Wolfeboro for 18 months and had to walk almost 5 miles to catch the train to the school. She was proud of her Wentworth heritage. She was a descendant of William Wentworth, mid 17th century, and held personal memories of her grandfather George Wentworth, a Civil War Veteran. During WWII she delivered mail twice a day in rural Wakefield and Ossipee for 5 years. She later moved to Gonic and worked at Clarostat in Dover, and after worked for her second husband Robert as the bookkeeper for his garage. They moved to Florida in 1969 and after Robert retired in 1989 they spent their winters there and summers in NH. She enjoyed life and loved dancing, craft work, playing cards, bingo, and attending family gatherings. She was very active up to 100 and was looked up to by many. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She leaves and will be greatly missed by her husband of 57 years Robert Spurling of Rochester, NH; her son Richard Munroe and wife Mary of Rochester, NH; her daughter Arlene Ciccotelli of Ossipee, NH; her stepson Gary Spurling and wife Sandra of Rochester, NH; 11 grandchildren, Dwight, Paul, Larry, and Wayne Ciccotelli, Steven Munroe, Stacey Munroe, Dickie Munroe, Patsy Stuart, Jane Adjutant, Tammy Barrett, and Jody McKenzie, 20 great grandchildren and 23 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son Donald Munroe and wife Avonne, and her grandson Brian Munroe. Family and friends may visit Monday April 15, 2013 from 1-2PM at the R.M. Edgerly and Son Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St. Rochester, NH. A funeral service will be held at 2PM in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery in Rochester.
