EAST ROCHESTER - Goldie (Garland) Durgin, 77, of 38 Unity St., died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, surrounded by her loving family.She was born Jan. 14, 1933 in Farmington, the daughter of the late Charles and Marion (Whittan) Garland.She worked in the shoe industry for many years, first working in the factory and later working from her home. In her later years, she became a homemaker and loved working in her many flower gardens. She enjoyed canning, making pickles and jellies, which she would share with her family and friends. She liked playing Yahtzee, card games and putting together puzzles. The most important thing to Goldie was her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.The family would like to say many thanks to the Dialysis Center, home care nurses, Care Plus, Lincare, and Wentworth Home Care and Hospice.Members of her family include her daughters, Regina Durgin of Barnstead, Kim Smith and husband Jerome of Effingham, and Patricia Smith of Parsons Field, Maine; her sons, Daniel Durgin of Quincy, Mass., and Joseph Durgin and wife Lynne of Milton Mills; her brothers, Charles Garland of Brentwood and Carl Garland and wife Barbara of Farmington; her sister, Ruth Patnaude of Lowell, Mass., and 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Reginald Durgin; her sisters Ruby Hassen and Ethel Fowler; two granddaughters, Kalla Smith and Jennifer Durgin; her son-in-law, Michael Smith Sr.; and her sister-in-law, Shirley Garland.Friends and family may visit Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010 from 5 to 6 p.m. at the R. M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 S.
