James G. Paine, Dvm

Strafford- Dr. James G. Paine, DVM, 78, of Strafford NH died Saturday, November 27, 2010 at the Epsom Healthcare Center in Epsom. Born February 15, 1932 in Melrose, MA. He was the son of the late Lorin D. and Nellie S. (Skinner) Paine. Dr. Paine attended New Hampton School, University of New Hampshire, and Auburn University where he received his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. He served proudly in the U. S. Air Force and the New Hampshire and the Alabama Air National Guard. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Major. He cared for large and small animals throughout his years of practice. He was owner and president of Russell Animal Hospital PA in Concord, NH. Dr. Paine was a member of the NH Veterinary Medical Association, the NH Legislative Academy of Science and Technology, the American Animal Hospital Association, and the New England Veterinary Medical Association. He was a consultant to the NH Post Secondary Education Commission. He also served on the NH Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners and as the NH Fish and Game Commissioner for Merrimack county. He received many awards and honors; including the American Animal Hospital Association's Outstanding Practitioner award, the Concord SPCA's Humanitarian of the Year award, and the Granite State Award for Outstanding Alumnus from the University of NH. He also received the first Meritorious Service Award from the NH Veterinary Medical Association and the Humanitarian Service Award from the NE Federation of Humane Societies. Dr. Paine is a past president of the Concord Rotary Club, the Concord SPCA, the Bow Lake Camp Owners Association and the Concord Canoe Club. He served on the Board of Trustees of the Concord Hospital and served as its president. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, family, and woodworking. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Gertrude E. (Ames) Paine of Strafford, his sons James L. Paine and wife Kathleen of Concord, and Stacy W. Paine of Strafford, and his grandchildren James J. Paine of Missouri, Michael L. Paine of Strafford, and Rebecca M. Paine of Strafford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wildlife Heritage Foundation of NH, P.O.
