Alton Bay - James A. Waterhouse, 94, formerly of Alton Bay, NH passed away Sunday March 27, 2016 at the Clipper Harbor Home in Portsmouth, NH following a period of failing health. Born June 17, 1921 in Sanford, ME he was the son of the late Alfred and Hazel Waterhouse. Mr. Waterhouse served in the US Army during WWII. He began his automotive career as a body man and painter and later worked as a salesman for the Chevrolet Franchise in Rochester including Farmer Motor Sales, Wyman's, and Dick Poulin Chevrolet where he worked until he retired. Jim loved spending time with his family, he enjoyed racing cars when he was younger and watching later on. Working in his garage, yard and garden and playing pool with the family. He was also an active member of the PTA in Lebanon, Maine when the Lebanon Elementary school was built in 1953. Members of his family include his children, Jean Hett and husband Phil of Alton Bay, NH; Linda Waterhouse of Manchester; James Waterhouse and wife Lorraine of Fremont, NH; and Stephen Waterhouse and wife Solange of Somersworth, NH; eleven grandchildren and several great and great great grandchildren, one brother David Waterhouse of Barrington, NH; one son-in-law Neil Hastings of Rochester, NH several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Emma I (Gerrish) Waterhouse, and his daughter Sandra Hastings, his sisters Priscilla Leach, Marylou Stuart, Prudence Allard and brother John Waterhouse. Family and friends may visit Saturday April 2, from 3-5PM at the R.M. Edgerly and Son Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St. Rochester, NH. A funeral service will be held at 5PM in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial will take place in the Forest Grove Cemetery in Lebanon, ME at a later date.
