Dover, NH- John H. Barker, 91, of 21 Piscataqua Road died Sunday March 13, 2011 at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital after a brief illness. Born Dec. 9, 1919 in Lumberton, NC he was the son of the late Neil and Martha (Malone) Barker. John has resided in Dover for the past 32 years previously living in Rochester. He served in the U.S. Marines during WWII in the South Pacific Theatre as sergeant for 6 years. He retired as a lineman from Public Service Company of NH after working for 30 years then retired from New England Cablevision. John was an active member of the I.B.E.W. and the United State Trotting Association. He was a driver and trainer of standard breed of horses for twenty-five years. Members of his family include the love of his life, Eleanor E. Grenier of Dover who was with him for last 31 years, of Dover, NH; son, Christopher Barker ,Strafford, NH; daughters, Mitzi Cote, and Louise Barker both of Rochester ; Linda Knox, and Kathy Seely of Virginia; several grandchildren; great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, a special niece, Christine Monroe of N. Carolina. He is predeceased by his first loving wife Eilleen (Rasch) Barker, a son; William Cleveland Barker, two brothers; Abner and Cleveland Barker, and a sister; Zaraw Devane There will be no calling hours. A memorial service for the family will be held Monday March 21, 2011 at 7:00PM at the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main Street, Rochester NH. Burial will be in Portsmouth, NH at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Cocheco Valley Humane Society, County Farm Road, Dover, NH 03820.
