Effingham - John H. Lovejoy, Jr. 81, passed away Thursday December 8, 2011 at the Hyder Family Hospice House in Dover, NH. following a period of failing health. Born January 2, 1930 in San Diego, CA he was the son of the late John H. and Jennie (Stevens) Lovejoy, Sr. Mr. Lovejoy served as a Quarter master and Signalman on the USS Newport News and the U.S.S. Desmoines in the US Navy during the Korean War and continued his service in the Navy Reserves for 28 years before retiring. He worked as a draftsman for many years for Great Falls Products and later in life worked with the Forestry Department for the State of NH. He had also worked for the City of Rochester as Tax Assessor 1976-1978. He graduated from Spaulding High School Class of 1948. He was a member of the Jaycee's, a scout leader for the Boy Scouts, he had coached midget football and Babe Ruth baseball and he was a volunteer for the East Rochester Fire Department for many years. He enjoyed watching sports and Nascar on weekends with his family. He especially enjoyed relaxing in his living room watching his birds daily. Members of his family include his children Sharon Sprowl and husband Steven of Milton, NH; George Lovejoy and wife Elva of Berwick, ME; Sandy Bickford and husband Gary of Rochester, NH; Gary Lovejoy and wife Robin of Lebanon, ME; Sheila Taylor and husband Tom of Dover, NH; and Glenn Lovejoy of Milton, NH; twelve grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. His brother George Lovejoy and wife Sharon of Barrington, NH; and sister Grace Austin and husband Delmar of St. Johnsbury, VT; nieces and nephews. Family and friends may visit Wednesday December 14, 2011 from 4 - 6 PM at the R.M. Edgerly and Son Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St Rochester, NH. A memorial service will be held at 6 PM in the chapel of the funeral home.
