Rochester – John B. Ray, 83, affectionately known by many as “Johnnie,” passed away peacefully on December 1, 2025, at his home, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family.

Born on August 7, 1942, in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, John was the son of the late John W. Ray and Althea R. (Burrill) Ray. At just 17 years old, John proudly enlisted in the United States Army, serving overseas in France for four years — an experience that shaped his sense of duty, discipline, and resilience.

He went on to devote many years to the Rockingham County newspaper, where he served as Circulation Director and was admired for his leadership, commitment, and steady presence.

John found joy in the outdoors and was happiest when boating, fishing, or spending a sunny afternoon on the golf course. A proud New England Patriots fan, he rarely missed cheering on his team. He also had a lifelong soft spot for animals and opened his home — and his heart — to countless rescues over the years.

John is lovingly remembered by his two daughters, Cindy Callahan and her husband, Steve Callahan, of Pembroke, MA, and Shari Dupra of Amesbury, MA; his sister, Beverly Leveille of Haverhill, MA; his former wife, Brenda Ray of Amesbury, MA; and his four cherished grandchildren: Alexis Dupra, Kristin Callahan, Kyle Callahan, and Kaden Callahan.

He is reunited in eternal rest with his beloved wife, Sharon Ray (Hall); his sisters, Marie Larose and Phyllis Brown; and his brother, Richard Ray.
