Joyce Wood

ROCHESTER: Joyce S. Wood, 81, died, Sunday, January 6, 2013 in the Hyder Family Hospice House after a long battle with Cancer. Her loving and devoted family was by her side during her stay. Born in Buffalo NY on April 16, 1931 she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Joyce Stinson. She resided in Groveland for many years and has lived in Rochester for the past nine years. Joyce was a graduate of Mary Burnham School for Girls, Northhampton MA and Norwegian School of Nursing , Brookline NY and was a member of the U.S. Navy Reserves. While raising her family she was a registered nurse in many hospitals in Massachusetts before retiring. After retirement she moved to Wakefield NH and worked part-time as an Insurance Nurse and then later a Red Cross Volunteer at the Naval Branch Health Clinic,Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Joyce can be best described as a wonderful nurse, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She never thought twice about spending time with her family. In her spare time, she enjoyed singing in her church choir, knitting, sewing and traveling. Joyce is survived by her husband, Kenneth B. Wood of Rochester NH, daughters, Donna J. Haack and her husband, Terrance of Sparta WI; Jane Russell and her husband, Scott of Farmington NH; seven grandchildren, Donis, Janis, James Michael, Sara, Andrew, Kimberly & Kerri; 11 great grandchildren, one niece and nephew. She was also predeceased by her one sister, 3 brothers and daughter, Gail A. Ortiz. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday , January 10, 2013 at the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St., Rochester NH at 11 a.m. Calling hours will be held one hour prior to her funeral service. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Hyder Family Hospice House or Wentworth Hospice in Dover NH.. Interment will be held in the Riverview Cemetery in Groveland MA following the funeral services.
