Kirby Flanagan

Rochester, New Hampshire - Kirby E. L. Flanagan Sr., 79, of Rochester, NH, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away on Saturday, November, 10th after a brief illness. Kirby was the son of the late Edward and Anita (Dube) Flanagan. Kirby was a graduate of Spaulding High School Class of 1958 and Brewster Academy Class of 1959. While at Spaulding he was a four letter athlete. At both Spaulding and Brewster he excelled in both Baseball and Football.  He was an All American Running Back and Captain of the undefeated 1957 and 1958 Spaulding Red Raiders Football Team. He was also a member of the 1956 American Legion Post 7 State Championship team. In 1958 The St. Louis Sporting News selected Kirby as one of just 80 young men across the country to be named to the paper's All Prep Team. Kirby was employed for 20 years at Davidson Rubber Company in Dover NH as a Urethane Chemist. During his tenure he was awarded three United States Patents in chemistry. He owned and operated the Donna Flanagan Bingo Center for 30 years which was instrumental in raising money for numerous local and regional charitable organizations. In supporting local sports and athletes he served as Past President of the Rochester Athletic Association and continued to hold his membership for over forty years until his passing. He was inducted into the Rochester Sports Hall of Fame in 1994. Kirby loved spending time with his wife Donna, his children and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed his trips to the mountains, fairs and annual Florida vacations with them. He also enjoyed playing Bingo at the Manchester Bingo Center.  He never missed the presentation of the memorial blanket in honor of his parents at the Fryeburg Fair, Fryeburg, ME. This tradition was sponsored by his Son, Kirby Jr., and he was very proud to be a part of it. Kirby was responsible for reestablishing the Loyal Order of the Moose #1298 in 1975. He served as Governor of the organization for many years and continued on as treasurer after that until resigning the post. Kirby shared a business and partnership with Bernie Bennet, for 40 plus years, at K&B Reflections,Inc. Kirby was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Anita Flanagan, his niece, Katie Flanagan and his nephews Barry Flanagan, Jr. and Donnie Johnstone. Kirby is survived by his wife of 58 years, Donna (Curran) Flanagan and children, Kirby Jr., Kevin, Shawn, Kathy and her partner Garrett Stover; Grandchildren, Kyle Flanagan, Cory Flanagan and his fiancé Marissa Sauer, Tommy Flanagan and Matty Flanagan; Brother, Barry Flanagan, Sisters, Nancy (Flanagan) Macaione and Linda (Flanagan) Chase; Sisters in law, Jean (Curran) Johnstone and her husband Bill, Carol (Curran) Breton; Stepsister in law, Dottie Ann McLain and husband John and many nieces and nephews. SERVICES: Friends and Family are invited to attend a Celebration of Life Mass at St. Mary's Church at 71 Lowell Street, Rochester, NH on Thursday, November 15th. There will be a time of visiting from 10am - 11am with the Mass led by Father Thomas Duston beginning at 11am. There will be a luncheon immediately following the ceremony at the Church.
