Rochester NH - Larry Alan Schmidt, 68, of 28 Hemlock St died Thursday June 16, 2016 at his home after a brief illness. Born September 26, 1947 in Wichita KS, he is the son of the late Colonel Earl M. Schmidt (USAF ret.) and the late Lois (Rose) Gray. His daughter, Jennifer, preceded him in death. Larry, a longtime resident of Rochester, was a graduate of Carnegie-Mellon University. With a degree in electrical engineering, he worked at General Electric for thirty three years. An accomplished pilot, Larry enjoyed many years of flying throughout New England and the East Coast. As an engineer, Larry had a passionate interest for all things mechanical, especially motorcycles and cars. Larry will be dearly missed by those he touched with his kind spirit and generous nature. Members of his family include his best friend and beloved, Susan Page, of Rochester: his daughter, Katherine Schmidt, and her fiancé, Brad Von Haden of Newmarket NH; his sister Susan and Matthew Yingling and children of Phoenix AZ; and Susan Page's children Ashley and Ross, both of Portsmouth NH and grandson Wyatt Atkinson of Berkeley CA. His daughter, Jennifer, preceded him in death. A celebration of life will be held Tuesday June 21, 2016 at 3:00 PM in the chapel of the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St, Rochester NH. Reception to follow at the Governor's Inn, 78 Wakefield St., Rochester NH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rochester Opera House, City Hall, 31 Wakefield St. Rochester NH.
