Lawton Chandler Allen

March 11, 1931 — November 26, 2023

>>>> It is with great sorrow that the family of Lawton Chandler Allen announces his passing on November 26, 2023. Lawton was born on March 11, 1931 in Goffstown, New Hampshire and died 92 years later in Dover, New Hampshire, but the 92 years between his birth and death were filled with love and adventure, hard work, family and fun all over the United States and the world. >>>> Lawton was a man of boundless energy and enthusiasms. He was married for 56 years to Alyce Anne O'Brien and together they had four children. He was a Korean War veteran, graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a degree in business management, and enjoyed a lifelong career with General Electric as a sales engineer.  He and his family were able to live all around the United States and in each place he embraced the opportunities available. We, his children, son and daughters-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren all benefited from his drive and interests. Whether skiing Tuckerman's Ravine, driving and repairing tractors,  riding horses or driving boats (frequently into misadventures!), or learning how to stick a screwdriver into an air filter to open a carburetor, Lawton loved his family and taught them how to savor life! >>>> Lawton and Alyce loved to travel and enjoyed regaling family and friends with tales of driving down the narrow roads of Ireland, and being a victim of the great Russian ruble ripoff - it was all a grand adventure to him! >>>> Lawton also received a masters degree in business from Xavier University in Cincinnati, was honored by being inducted into the Kentucky Colonels, retired from General Electric, and then started the next chapter of his life, pursuing the wily  trout and hitting the snowmachine trails in Rangeley, Maine, where he lived for many years. He was also part of the Sugarloaf mountain ski ambassador group, where  he made many friends with whom he enjoyed both sunny and snowy days on the slope and a cold beer after a hard day! >>>> Lawton is predeceased by his wife, Alyce Anne O'Brien, and is survived by his four children; Kathleen and Allan Cawrse of York, Maine; Rebecca Anctil of Rochester, New Hampshire; Michael and Katherine Allen of Dumfries, Virginia; and Matthew Allen of Niceville, Florida. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his partner, Jo-An Armstrong, with whom he enjoyed the last 13 years of his life.   >>>> We know that Lawton is skiing the black diamonds in heaven and repairing God's tractor as well. We miss and love him and value the time he shared here with us all. We look forward to celebrating his life together in Rangeley, Maine in July.
