Leo A. Huppe

Leo Huppe Rochester - Leo A. Huppe, passed away peacefully at home on October 20, 2021. Leo was born in Laconia on February 25, 1925, the son of the late Gideon and Amelia (Gagne) Huppe. He spent his early years in Laconia NH and Lowell, MA and has lived most of his life in Rochester. A veteran of World War II, Leo was honorably discharged from the US Army in 1946 having served in the Asiatic Pacific. He was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the Combat Infantry Badge. He was self-employed working as a carpenter and general contractor before retiring in 1987. He enjoyed a long and happy retirement. In his early years he enjoyed his large vegetable garden which also included strawberries and blueberries. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed the outdoors. Throughout his life he was a self-taught craftsman. He was a loving and caring man who enjoyed his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him. He was predeceased by his parents and three brothers, Armand, Marcel and Roland Huppe. He is survived by his loving wife of 76 years, Evelyn (Stuart) Huppe, one sister Estelle Talon of Rochester, his daughter Cynthia and husband Alfred Benton of Rochester, his grandchildren Bonnie Noyes of Exeter, James Benton (Jane) of Rochester, Jennifer Cote (Steve) of Milton Mills, and Jonathan Benton (Sheila) of Rochester. Eight great grandchildren, Aaron Benton, Joshua Noyes, Sean Benton, Jacob Benton, Janna Berry, Sarah Benton, Jessica Cote, and Liam Benton. Two great-great grandchildren Abraham Benton and Ella Benton. Family and friends may visit Tuesday October 26, 2021 from 11:00am to Noon with a service to follow at the Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St. Rochester NH. Burial will follow with military honors at Rochester Cemetery on Franklin Street. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to Wentworth Homecare & Hospice, 9 Andrews Road Somersworth, New Hampshire 03878 (603) 692-0220.
