Lewis L. Young

Rochester, NH - Lewis L. (Louie) Young, a lifelong resident of Rochester passed away on August 23, 2024, with family by his side at Pinnacle of North Berwick at the age of 94.
Born in Rochester, NH on January 22, 1930, to Ashbel and Ina (Stahl)Young.
He was a proud father of four children: Michael, Marcia, Keith and Barbara Young and a dedicated partner for 32 years to Anita Cassily.
Lewis worked on the family-owned Great Elm Farm on Pickering Road in Gonic from his early teens until the farm was sold in 1972. In addition to all his duties keeping the farm running, he also drove one of the routes delivering milk to homes until 1968. Following the sale of the farm he worked as a construction laborer for several years, he also worked at Combustion Engineering for a number of years and also drove truck for several outfits including Watson Sand and Gravel, S.U.R Construction and R& M Paving. He was most proud of the fact that after his retirement, he was often asked if he wanted to come back to drive again.
In addition to his full-time jobs, Lewis raised cows and pigs and grew a large garden to earn "pin money". He also worked seasonally at the Rochester Fair for over 25 years. The majority of which he worked for the racing commission testing the winning horses after races.
Lewis will be most remembered for his outgoing social nature; he could and did talk to everyone and was the first to volunteer to help anyone who needed assistance.
During his life he was involved in several civic groups including the Jaycees and the Gonic Recreation Association where he served a term as its President.  He has been a member of the Rochester Elks Lodge since 1991.  He also participated on the Spaulding class of 1950 reunion committee for over 30 years.
He enjoyed hunting, fresh water and ice fishing, gardening, golf, and traveling.
He was predeceased by his Father and Mother:  Ashbel and Ina Young; 4 brothers: Richard, William, George and Donald; 3 sisters: Ruth Beard, Jean Young and Lois Smith. grandson: Tommy Young; and his life partner of 32 years: Anita Cassily.
He is survived by his 4 Children and their spouses: Michael Young (Linda Young), Marcia Young (Stacey Allin), Keith Young (Chris Cloutier), Barbara Young (Michael Flynn), and Anita's two children: Gary Cassily and Michael Cassily; 7 grandchildren: Mikey Young, Sherry La, Bonny Young and Christy Young, Jonathan Cassily,  Kaitlin Howard and Meaghan Moody; 8 grandchildren: Marisa, Lenore, Melody Young; Thomas, and Anthea Delintsiotis; Jayleen Miliner; Maygan and Tyler La.
Family and friends may visit Monday, August 26th, from 6PM - 8PM at the R.M. Edgerly and Son Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St. Rochester, NH. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 27th at 11AM in the chapel of the funeral home, followed by a burial service at Rochester Cemetery.
