Marguerite Merrill "Peggy" Spence passed away on March 15, 2013 at Exeter Center surrounded by her family. She was born in Lyman, Maine on February 25, 1920. Marguerite graduated from a one room school house in 1938 and went on to Boston University where she earned a degree in Home Economics. She put her training to use early on as a dietician at Henrietta Goodall Hospital, in Sanford Maine and later as a ptissier at Spicer's Galley in Cape Porpoise, Maine along with her home kitchen. Following the end of World War II she married Ralph Gordon Spence. They were married until his death in 1979. Marguerite lived with her family for many years in Cape Porpoise, Maine before moving to Rochester in 1961, where she lived until 2009 when she moved to Newfields. Marguerite was dedicated to her family and friends. She was always quick to give advice, lend a hand, or sit and share one of her many stories. She loved to cook, garden, watch the birds, knit, and spend time with family. Marguerite worked at the Rochester Fair as an Assistant Superintendent in the Arts and Crafts Department and sold Tupperware for 28 years prior to retiring in 2000. She influenced countless people with her generosity, wit and wisdom, and loving way. She is pre-deceased by her parents Will Roberts and Neva Ricker Merrill, and her three sisters, Helen Harlow, Barbara Lord, and Martha Thompson. Marguerite is survived by her three children: Cynthia Radey and her husband Harvey M. "Skip" Radey III, of Rochester; Robert Spence and his wife Paula of Fall City, Washington; and Gayle Spence Davis and her husband Dwight of Newfields. Marguerite has four grandchildren, Rebecca Radey and her husband Christian Wallace and Patricia Radey and Spencer Morgan of Skagway, Alaska; and Chris Williams of Los Angeles, California, and Paul Williams of Fall City, Washington, and Dillinger and Cristal Davis of Newfields. She has two great-grandchildren, Wynter Radey Morgan and Fable LeLu Wallace of Skagway, Alaska. She leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. The family is grateful for the loving care that Marguerite received at Exeter Center (Exeter on Hampton) and from the care team at SolAmor Hospice. Collectively they allowed her to make her journey with grace and dignity. Services will be held at Edgerly's Funeral Home, 86 South Main Street in Rochester on Monday March 18, 2013. Visiting will begin at 2:00PM and the funeral at 3:00PM. Burial will be held in the spring at the Chadborne Cemetery in Waterboro, Maine.
