West Lebanon, ME - Mary D. Allen, 65, passed away Saturday December 1, 2012 at her home following a period of failing health. Born August 13, 1947 in Milton, NH she was the daughter of the late Franklin and Mary (Timmons) Dickson. After graduating from Nute High School in 1965, Mary attended Boston University and then completed her education at the University of New Hampshire. She spent the following years raising her two children, supporting their activities and always attending their sporting events. Following in her mother's footsteps, Mary pursued a teaching career at Nute High School. She spent many years teaching Special Education and later in her time at Nute, she was able to teach high school Spanish, which she enjoyed immensely, including a trip to Spain with a group of her students. Mary was a trustee of the Nute High School Library. In her spare time she enjoyed playing golf, spending time at the cottage on Great East Lake, and spending time with her four grandchildren, whom she adored. Members of her family include her husband of 44 years Paul Allen of West Lebanon, ME; her children Christopher Allen and wife Catherine of East Wakefield, NH; and Jill Farwell and husband Corey of Berwick, ME; four grandchildren Ryan and Abigail Allen, Justin and Derek Farwell, and her brother Ernest Dickson and wife Janis of Eliot, ME. The family would like to thank Wentworth Homecare and Hospice and the Seacoast Cancer Center for the care and compassion given to Mary throughout her illness. Family and friends may visit Tuesday December 4, 2012 from 6-8 PM at the R.M. Edgerly and Son Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St. Rochester, NH. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 AM in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Rochester Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Centralized Memorial Processing Center, 30 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701.
