Mary Chapin Newhall

September 23, 1937 — January 22, 2022

Mary Chapin Newhall, 84 of Rochester New Hampshire passed peacefully surrounded by her family, on January 22, 2022. Mary was born September 23, 1937, to Ralph and Blanche (Brooks) Thompson in Newton, Massachusetts. Mary spent her early years in Bow Lake, NH. She enjoyed many summers at Camp Foss. Mary and her family moved to Rochester so she could attend Spaulding High School and at this time, she joined Troup 2 and became a lifelong Girl Scout. During Mary's senior year of high school her Girl Scout troop took a trip to Washington DC where they had tea in the Rose Garden with the First Lady. Mrs. Eisenhower remarked that the girls had more badges than her husband the President had medals. Following Mary's graduation from Spaulding High School in 1955, she worked at Palmer Plumbing. She met John Newhall, when he returned from the service and they were married on October 10th, 1959. Mary centered her life around her family and being the best wife, mother, and friend to all. If you were looking for Mary, you'd often find her walking, baking, berry picking, at one of her kids/grandkids/great grandkids activities, visiting friends, traveling, or out to eat with John. But wherever she was, she was easy to spot in her white beach hat. Mary enjoyed winter months in Englewood Florida with family and friends. Mary is predeceased by her parents, her husband, great nephew Jeremey Wagner, and grandson James Langevin. She is survived by her three children: Julie Newhall Davis and husband Alan, John George Newhall Jr and his wife Corrinne, and Janice Newhall Brown. Her sister Jean Custeau and niece Debra Griffiths. Her grandchildren MaryBeth, Katherine, Robert, Brittany, Casey, Kayla, Michael and her great grandsons Graham, Brody, Odin, and Atlas. Mary was present, kind, humble, and courageous. Her thoughtfulness and smile touched everyone she met. A private burial will be held when the lilacs bloom with the family and close friends at Ocean View Cemetery in Wells, Maine In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Mary's name to Girl Scouts of America: https://www.girlscouts.org/en/support-us/invest/donate/donate-now-gsusa-council.html To sign the online guest book visit: www.edgerlyfh.com
