ROCHESTER - Maurice J. Mason, 95, of 4 Gary Drive, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at his daughter's home.Born Oct. 23, 1914 in Belvidere, Vt., he was the son of the late Emmy and Lillian (Haire) Mason. Maurice had lived in Rochester most of his life after moving from Barnstead, N.H. He was last employed as a maintenance man at the Ayers Lake Campground in Barrington after retiring from working most of his life in the logging industry and in the Woolen Mills of Rochester. He enjoyed gardening and took great pride in his vegetable and flower gardens. He was skilled in many ways and loved to tinker. In his earlier years, Maurice enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in the woods as a wood cutter. He enjoyed spending time with his family and taking trips to the lakes and mountains of N.H.Members of his family include his sons, Charles Hall and his wife, Marcia, of Virginia, James Mason and his wife, Sharon, of Texas and Timothy Mason and his wife, Donna, of Salem; his daughters, Dawna Gardner and her husband, Peter, of New Jersey, Sharon Laurion and her husband, David, of Rochester, Nancy Mantopoulos of Rochester, Alice Fowler of Rochester, Myra DeCarolis of California; stepdaughter, June Cutter of New Durham and daughter-in-law, Linda Mason of Massachusetts. Maurice also has 25 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; two half-sisters, Sandra Mason of Marlboro, Mass., and Sally Leach and her husband, Donald, of Belgrade, Maine; two half-brothers, James Mason and his wife, Helen, of Marlboro, Mass., and Everett Mason of Framingham, Mass.Maurice was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Alva (Hall) Mason; his son, Edward Mason; his brothers, Charles, Hayden and Ernest Mason; his first wife, Bernadine (Roberts) Mason, their four children, Wayne, Lillian, Richard, Paul Mason and stepson, William Newton. Calling hours will be held Monday 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St. Rochester.Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home.Burial will be in the Cold Spring Cemetery, East Rochester following the Service.
