Merl L. Bartels

St. Cloud, FL.- Merl L. Bartels, 94, died at her home in St. Cloud, Florida. on Sunday June 24, 2018 from complications due to heart disease. She was born Feb. 7, 1924 in Northwood, NH to the late Grace Akins Seavey and Ralph Seavey, Sr. She graduated from Coe Brown Academy in Northwood, NH. In 1967 she moved from Barrington, NH to St. Cloud, FL where she resided for over 50 years. She would return to NH where she enjoyed the summers. During the winter, she would return to Florida and enjoy the warm weather. Merl enjoyed collecting dolls, watching Shirley Temple movies, playing bingo, crocheting and card games. She loved baseball, eating lobster, going to York Beach and traveled to Ireland. Most of all she loved spending time with family and friends. She would say "When you are coming to visit, you know my door is always open". In addition to her parents, Merl is preceded in death by her infant son, Harold "Buddy", her brothers and sisters-in-law, Duke Seavey and (Arletta), Fred Seavey (Barbara) and sister and brother-in-law, Frances Carlson (William). Merl is survived by her children, Wellington Phillips Bartels, III (Sally) Barrington, NH, Richard Bartels, Tallahassee, FL., Tom Bartels, Pikesville, TN., and Joan Bartels Puglia (Allen Cole) Oviedo, FL; her sister, Phyllis Powers, Tulia, TX; her brothers, Donald (Jean) Seavey, Sparks, NV and Robert (Carol) Seavey, Fort Edward, NY. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 2 great- great grandchildren and many other relatives. The family would like to thank Cornerstone Hospice and Tri-City Covenant Church for all their love and support. Family and friends may visit Thursday June 28, 2018 from 1-2 PM at the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main Street, Rochester, NH. The funeral service will follow at 2PM in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Barrington, NH.
